Game One
Game Two
WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team dropped two Northwest Conference games at the Whitman Missionaries on Saturday afternoon. Whitman collected a 9-3 victory in the first game, before earning a 6-1 victory in the second game.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-12 on the season and 0-8 in conference action. The Missionaries improve to 3-13 overall and 2-3 in the NWC.
Whitman broke through with three runs in the bottom of the third, before stretching its lead to 7-0 in the fifth.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard with two runs in the sixth inning, cutting the Missionary advantage to 7-2. Senior Sam Holman knocked in Tom Danz on a hard hit to second base to start the scoring. A two-out triple from Eliot Smith brought Roland Greene in to score from second base.
Whitman countered with another run in the bottom half of the inning for an 8-2 lead. The Missionaries tacked on a ninth run in the eighth. Lewis & Clark tallied its final run in the ninth inning when Nick Lavin came around to score on a Giuseppe Baffaro single.
The Pioneers took an early lead in game two, picking up a run in the third inning. With two-outs, Baffaro hit a single to center that scored Geoff Wertz. Unfortunately that would be the only run that the Pioneers would be able to put on the scoreboard.
Lewis & Clark made things interesting in the top of the ninth, loading up the bases with just one out, but the Missionaries were about to get out of the inning untouched.
The two sides will wrap up the three game series on Sunday, March 13 at noon.
