PORTLAND, OR.-
Senior George Allen continues to be the highlight of the Pioneers' season as he pulls out another hard fought win in a third set match breaker. Having to forfeit a doubles and a singles point, and playing through illnesses and injuries in other flights, the Pioneers were happy to celebrate Allen's win and their marked improvement.
In doubles action, the Loggers won both contested flights by a score of 8-2. Nick Kelley and Chaz Stewart beat Allen and Quinn Roth-Carter while Michael Cutter and Alex Harrison took out Kerry White and Sam Franer.
Andrew Timmons would clinch the match fairly early for the Loggers with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Muneeb Khan. Brian Burger and Kelley would only give up one game each in wins over Franer and White. Roth-Carter would have some success in the #2 flight but would ultimately fall to Stewart 6-3, 6-1. The match of the night would come at the #1 singles position though as Michael Cutter would race out to a quick 6-2 edge in the first set as Allen struggled to find his rhythm on the serve return. Being patient though and finding his stroke in the second set, Allen gave the Pios plenty to cheer about as he pushed Cutter into a match breaker by tieing it up at a set a piece with a 7-5 second set win. Allen would carry the second set momentum into the breaker and score the Pio's only point with a 10-7 win, complete with a dog pile celebration by his teammates.
The Pioneers take on the George Fox Bruins next at the LC Tennis Dome on Saturday at 1 pm.
