PORTLAND, OR.-
The Bearcats take down the Pios 9-0 on a frigid night down at The Courthouse.
In an unusual late night start in Salem, Willamette made sure that play wouldn't last into the early hours of the morning. Doubles play seemed competitive in the early stages as all three doubles flights started off being on serve. The early holds would not continue as the Bearcats pulled away in all three matches. Joshua Wong and Vincent Garret would win 8-2 over George Allen and Quinn Roth-Carter. Mathew Houser and Will Cooper would take their match by the same score over Cole Pfeiffer and Sam Franer. Muneeb Khan and Gabriel Trepanier would play the most competitive doubles match of the night against Michael Baumgarter and Cameron Thompson but would ultimately fall 8-3.
The Bearcats wouldn't be threatened in any singles matches either as no player would give up more than five games. Although the individual points and games were competitive, the Pios continue to find difficulty finishing game points and sets. Allen and Baumgarter would highlight the evening by trading big ground strokes and deft shot making in a final tally that would not be representative of the competitiveness of the match. Baumgarter took it home with a 6-1, 6-2 score. Sam Franer tallied the most games for the Pios in a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Will Cooper.
Weather permitting, the Pios head up to Walla Walla to face the Whitman Missionaries on Saturday afternoon.
