Game One l Game Two
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team dropped two games against the Occidental Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. The Pioneers, who earned a victory in game one of the four game series on Friday, felling 16-1 in game two and 5-4 in game three.
A 10 run sixth inning for the Tigers burried the Pioneers in the first game of the day. The Pios plated thier only run of the game in the ninth inning on an RBI flyout to left field by Parker Dane. Freshman Tom Danz scored the lone run for the Pioneers after reaching base on a walk.
Sophomore pitcher Eliot Smith took the loss for the Pioneers.
In a much tighter second game, Occidental took an early 1-0 lead. Both teams scored in the second inning. Senior Sam Holman hit a solo homerun to knot the game, but the Tigers responded with one of their own in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
Lewis & Clark added two in the sixth, to again take a 3-2 lead. Senior Michael Ball came around to score the first run of the inning on a Nate Grisham double to left center. Grisham would eventully come around to score on a triple by Holman.
Occidental would answer back with a three run seventh to take a 5-3 advantage. The Pioneers earned a run back in the top of the ninth on a Holman single that brought in Danz, but it would not be enough to take down the Tigers.
The two sides meet again on Sunday at 11 a.m.
