Four Players Score in Double Figures To Lead Men's Basketball Over Pacific 73-54

BOX SCORE

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's basketball team had four players finish in double figures scoring in its 73-54 Northwest Conference win over the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers on Saturday night.

The Pioneers are now 12-3 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. Pacific falls to 3-12 overall and 2-4 in NWC action.

Marcus Wells concluded the night with a game-high 19 points, shooting 7-12 from the floor and 3-4 from the charity stripe. Junior PJ Taylor finished with 13 points, while Donato Perconti and Kelly Edwards both chipped in 12 points. Senior Kyle Meeuwsen and freshman Quentin Sims each grabbed a team-high eight boards.

Colin Wester led the way for Pacific with 18 points, while teammate Carson Bartlett contributed 11 points.

The two teams jostled for control of the scoreboard throughout the first eight minutes of action, tying the game on four occasions. The Pioneers would secure possession of the half with 12:04 remaining on a monster three-pointer from Taylor. The basket brought life into the Pioneers, who went on to score eight unanswered points, capturing a 23-13 lead. Wells gave the Pios their largest lead of the half on a unassisted layup on the paint with 3:23 to go, putting L&C up 32-18. The Pioneers closed out the first half with a Sims layup, taking a 35-23 advantage into the locker room.

Taylor hit another huge shot from distance to open the second half. The Boxers would try to fight their way back into the contest but would not be able to overcome a surging Pio offense. Taylor pushed the Pioneer advantage to 21 points with another three-pointer, putting his team up 63-42, with 8:10 to go. The Pioneers would never be in danger of losing the lead, cruising to a 73-54 win.

Lewis & Clark returns to action on Friday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. for PAC(K) Pamplin when they host the Willamette Bearcats. Former cross country runner and current Rhodes Scholar, Tamma Carleton, will be honored at halftime.
