PARKLAND, Wash. – The Lewis & Clark
baseball team concluded the 2010 season with a loss to the Pacific
Lutheran Lutes on Sunday afternoon, falling 10-6 on the road. The
Pioneers end the season 9-24 overall and 6-18 in Northwest
Conference action.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the second inning when
Pioneer pitcher Eliot Smith led off with a single up the middle and
third baseman Jim Bray followed it up with a single to center.
Freshman Andrew Frisina loaded the bases after being walked,
followed up by a sacrifice fly by Geoff Wertz that brought home
Smith. Guiseppe Baffaro drove Bray home with a blooper down the
right field line.
The Lutes bounced back with three runs in the third to take a
3-2 advantage. Baffaro came through for the Pioneers in the fourth,
tying the game with an RBI single to center field. He picked up
another RBI in the sixth inning after hitting a double down the
left field line to drive home Zach Perez and give the Pioneers a
4-3 lead.
Pacific Lutheran regained the lead for good in the bottom half
of the inning, rallying for three runs on four hits. Four more Lute
runs in the eighth inning broke the game open for Pacific Lutheran,
giving them a six run, 10-4, advantage.
In the top of the ninth, pinch hitter Nate Grisham drilled a
homerun over the fence in left center for a two-run homerun to
close the scoring.
