SCORE
McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark
baseball team was unable to get its offense going, falling to the
Linfield Wildcats 12-2 on Sunday afternoon at Roy Hesler Field in
game three of the Northwest Conference series.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 9-16 on the season and 6-12 in
NWC play. The Wildcats are now 22-8 overall and 14-4 in conference
play.
The Pioneers scored first, putting up a run in the top of the
first inning on an RBI single by junior Tucker Laurence.
Laurence's single up the middle allowed lead-off batter
Michael Ball to come around to score, after he reached base on a
double. Ball moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Sami
Morgan, who returned the starting line-up after being forced to sit
out due to injury.
The lead would be short lived as the Wildcats tied the game 1-1
in the bottom half of the inning on a Pioneer error. Linfield piled
on nine more runs in the following three innings of play to take a
commanding 10-1 lead.
Linfield put up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh
inning, taking a 12-1 advantage. The Pioneers answered with another
run in the top of the eighth inning, with a solo home run to left
center by Morgan. The run would come a little too late in the game,
as the Pioneers would not be able to overcome the 12-2 deficit.
The Pioneers return to the field on Thursday, April 14 at 3:30
p.m. as they host the Concordia Cavaliers in a single
non-conference game at the Huston Sports Complex.
