PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Josh Kollasch posted
a game-high 17 points in his final game at the Pamplin Sports
Complex, as he led the Lewis & Clark men's basketball
team past the Pacific Boxers, 78-35, in a Northwest Conference
contest on Saturday night.
The win moves the Pioneers into a two-way tie for third place in
the NWC standings, as the Pios are tied with George Fox with 8-6
conference records. The Pios are also 11-12 overall. The Boxers
fall to 8-15 on the season and 4-10 in conference play.
The Boxers held a one point, 7-6, advantage with 17:26 on the clock
after Ross Bartlett hit a jumper to put his side in front.
Unfortunately that would be the last time the Boxers would hold the
lead in the game. The Pioneers quickly countered, tying the game
and then taking the lead, with back-to-back made free throws from
junior Kelly Edwards. Following the Edwards free throws, the Pios
went on a 14-0 run, that put them ahead of the Boxers 22-7 with
10:15 remaining in the half.
Edwards' extended the Pio lead to 21 with 7:16 on the clock,
after draining a long distance three, bumping the score to 30-9.
Lewis & Clark would add 10 more points to their already large
lead right before the half, with Kyle Mueewsen hitting a jumper
with three seconds left on the clock, sending his team into the
locker room ahead 45-14.
The second half still belonged to the Pios, with L&C taking a
63-22 lead on a Kollasch three-pointer with 11:50 remaining in the
contest. A layup in the paint by Kollasch with 6:09 remaining put
the Pios on top 75-26 as the team continued to push the tempo of
the game. The Boxers were able to close out the game on a 6-0 run,
with Marcus Kienlen scoring four of the points.
Kollasch finished with 17 points, while also pulling down five
boards and dishing out four assists. Edwards ended the night with
14 points, while both Mueewsen and James Hollins finished with 12
points. Senior Tyler Tsukazaki had a solid performance in his final
home game of his career, posting nine points, while shooting 6-of-7
from the charity stripe.
Bartlett led the Boxers with eight points and a game-high nine
rebounds. Adam McElwee contributed seven points in the Pacific
effort, while A.J. Gaulton, Kienlen and LeMar Anglin each had four
points.
The Pioneers return to the court on Friday, Feb. 19 when they head
to Newberg to take on George Fox at 8 p.m.
