PARKLAND, Wash. – Facing the challenges of
the road, the Lewis & Clark men's basketball team could
not overcome host Pacific Lutheran on Saturday night, falling to
the Lutes 83-73 in the Olson Auditorium in a Northwest Conference
match-up.
The Lutes picked up their third consecutive conference win (3-1),
while improving to 5-6 on the season. The loss brings to the
Pioneers to 2-10 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
Pacific Lutheran ran ahead 13-5 in the opening minutes of action,
but sophomore James Hollins chipped away at the Lute lead by
hitting three huge shots from the perimeter to tie the game 15-15
with 12:19 on the clock. The Pioneers would take a 19-15 lead with
11:08 to play in the half, after senior Josh Kollasch laid one in
from the paint. The Lutes battled their way back into the half,
taking a 23-21 advantage on a Cameron Schilling layup with 7:37 on
the clock. With a little over a minute remaining in the half, Kelly
Edwards hit a layup that sent the Pios into the locker room with a
40-39 advantage.
The second half began with both teams knocking down early baskets,
before Victor Bull laid one up to give the Lutes the lead once
more, this time for good.
PJ Taylor paced the Pioneers, scoring a game-high 16 points, while
Kollasch finished with 15. Hollins and Kyle Meeuwsen added 14
points in the Pios efforts.
Schilling ended with 16 points for the Lutes, while also pulling
down 12 rebounds.
The Pioneers return to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 12 when they take
on Willamette in a road contest, with the game set to begin at 6
p.m.
