WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark men's
basketball team used a second half surge to take down the Whitman
Missionaries in the second half of Northwest Conference action on
Friday night in Walla Walla, Wash.
The win moves the Pioneers to 6-11 on the season and 5-4 in
conference action, while the Missionaries are now 9-9 overall and
3-6 in the NWC.
The first half saw both teams struggle to hit their shots, but the
Pioneers would take a five point, 13-8, lead with 9:40 on the clock
with an Adam Brickley three-pointer. The Missionaries would take a
23-22 lead on a completed three-point play from David Michaels with
2:25 left on the clock. But the Pioneers closed out the half on an
8-0 run, getting key baskets from PJ Taylor and Josh Kollasch, to
lead 30-23 at the break.
In the second half the Pioneers opened on a 17-8 spree to build up
a huge lead, outscoring the Missionaries 14- in the first 10
minutes of the half. The Pios stretched their lead to 57-40 with
4:38 remaining on a three-pointer from Hollins. Shaw pulled the
Missionaries within eight in the closing minutes of the game, but
the Pios would convert six free throws in the final minute to
protect their lead.
The Pioneers were led by Kollasch who scored 17 points, while
grabbing seven rebounds and adding six assists. Hollins, who scored
14 points, chipped in eight rebounds and four assists. Taylor
contributed 13 points in the win, while Kelly Edwards had 10.
LuQuam Thompson paced the Missionaries with 19 points, while
Brandon Shaw added 12 points.
