FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's
basketball team improved to .500 in Northwest Conference action on
Saturday night after taking down the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers at the
Pacific Athletics Center by the final score 73-61.
The Pioneers improve to 4-10 on the season and an even 3-3 in NWC
play, while the Boxers fall to 4-11 overall and 0-6 in conference
action.
The first half opened as a slug fest with the two sides battling
for every point, tying the game five times in the first 10 minutes
of action. The Pioneers took control of the half for good after PJ
Taylor knocked down a three-pointer with 9:59 on the clock, giving
the Pios a 24-21 advantage. Junior Adam Brickley increased the
Pioneer lead to seven, their largest of the half, after scoring
from outside with a little over three minutes remaining. The Boxers
cut the score to 41-36 with 33 seconds on the clock with a LeMar
Anglin layup.
The Pioneers carried their momentum over from the first half,
continuing to run up the score in the opening minutes of the second
period. Kyle Meeuwsen scored from distance with 9:38 remaining,
after collecting a pass from Kelly Edwards, putting the Pioneers up
65-45. The Boxers pulled within 12 points in the final minute of
the contest on an A.J. Gaulton jumper, cutting the score to 73-61,
but it would not be enough to keep the Pioneers from victory.
Edwards led the way for the Pioneers, scoring a team-high 19
points, while finishing a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore James Hollins chipped in 13 points, while Meeuwsen and
Josh Kollasch both finished with 11 points.

Bartlett, Colin Wester and Jonathan Jury each netted nine

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. when
they host George Fox.
