GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. – The weather finally held
off long enough for the Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran
baseball teams to conclude play on its Northwest Conference
match-up originally scheduled for March 14. The two sides completed
their postponed game, with the Lutes pulling out a 9-3 win before
picking up a 10-3 win in game two.
Game one picked up in the top of the third inning, with the Lutes
leadoff batter up to the plate and Alex St. Pierre on the mound for
the Pioneers. Before the game was called on March 15 due to
weather, the Lutes were a top the Pioneers 2-1, after Tucker
Laurence cut the PLU lead to one run after jacking one over the
left field fence at the Houston Sports Complex
The Lutes earned three more runs in the top of the fifth inning,
with Hansen hitting a three-run home run to right field. PLU
grabbed one more run in the top of the seventh, before the Pioneers
answered back in the bottom of the inning. Laurence cut the Lutes
lead to 6-2, reaching base on a double to center before being
brought home by Michael Ball.
Laurence's run would be the only one the Pios would be able
to squeeze across the plate in game one, with the Lutes scoring
three more runs in the final two innings of action.
Pacific Lutheran jumped to an early lead in game two, posting one
run in the first inning of action. The Lutes lead would be short
lived however, as the Pioneers responded in the bottom of the
second with a run of their own. Laurence came around to score yet
again, this time touching home on a passed ball.
The Pioneers would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third
inning, with Laurence once again involved in the Pios run
production. This time around, Laurence earned a RBI after smacking
a double down the left field line, sending Jordan Wlodarczyk home
from first base.
Pacific Lutheran regained the lead in the top of the next inning,
jumping to a 4-2 advantage after posting three more runs. The Pios
would continue to make great contact with the ball in the next
three innings, but would not be able to find space but instead PLU
gloves. The Lutes tacked on five more runs in the top of the
seventh before the Pios were able to plate another run.
Wlodarczyk collected the Pios final run of the game, hitting a
rocket over the left field fence. The home run is
Wlodarczyk's team leading fourth of the season, and third in
three games. The Lutes picked up one more run in the top of the
ninth to seal a 10-3 win.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 28 as they host
Whitman in more NWC baseball action at the Houston Sports Complex.
First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
