SPOKANE, Wash., - The road proved to be a tough
place to play as the Lewis & Clark men's tennis team fell
to Northwest Conference foe Whitworth on Saturday, March 14 by the
final score 7-2. Vincent Groot picked up the team's lone
singles victory, taking out Michael Shelton in a battle at the No.
1 singles spot. The pair went through three sets and a tie breaker
before a winner was decided as Groot took the game 6-4, 0-6, 1-0
[10-8].
The team's second point came from the No. 1 doubles spot,
with Groot teaming up with Peter Ray to take on Shelton and Joe
Wales. The quartet battled back and forth until Groot and Ray took
charge to secure an 8-6 victory.
The Pioneers return to action on March 18 at 4 p.m. when they play
host to NWC power Whitman at the Tennis Dome.
