LOS ANGELES, Calif., - Despite jumping out to an
early 2-0 lead, the Occidental Tigers would prove to be too much to
handle as the Lewis & Clark baseball team dropped a 12-3
decision on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the
season, while the Tigers improve to 8-1.
The Pioneers put two on the board in the first inning of play, with
Parker Dane leading off the inning with a double to left center.
Dane would come around to score on a fly out by James Bray, after
stealing third on a wild pitch. The Pioneers second run would
happen in a similar manner, with Jordan Wlodarczyk coming around to
score moments later after collecting a double and advancing to
third on a wild pitch.
David LaDouceur would hold the Tigers scoreless through three
innings, before Occidental found its stride in the fourth inning of
play. The Tigers would put seven runs on the board in fourth inning
to jump ahead to a 7-2 lead.
The Tigers would collect four more runs through the next two
innings, taking an 11-2 lead into the seventh inning stretch. The
Pioneers would earn one run back in the eighth inning with
Wlodarczyk once again crossing home plate. The Pioneers would get
close to sending another runner home but left Sami Morgan stranded
at third.
Dane ended the day hitting 4-5 for the Pioneers, while Wlodarczyk
and Ryan Kostecka were 2-3.
The Pioneers open home play on Feb. 22 hosting Oregon Tech for an
11 a.m. start.
