OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Lewis & Clark
men's basketball team opened its 2009-10 season on the road
with a tough match-up with The Evergreen State in the Green House
on Thursday night.
Sophomore James Hollins led the way for the Pioneers, knocking down
a team-high 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Freshman Clifton
Avery ended his first intercollegiate contest with a game-high 11
rebounds, while adding six points to the Pios cause.
The Geoducks were led by guard Nathan Menefee who contributed a
game-high 20 points in ESC's 71-44 victory. Desmond Martin
finished with 12 points, while Josh Troyer scored 11.
The Pioneers shot 60% from the free throw line, led by Hollins who
was 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. The Pios forced 12 Geoduck
turnovers, while coming up with four steals in the process. Hollins
came up with two steals, while Avery and classmate Scott Pisapia
each had one.
Lewis & Clark heads to Walla Walla, Wash.for its next contest,
taking on William Jessup on Friday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. as part of
the Whitman Classic.
