The Pioneers ended the Conference portion of their schedule on a high-note, sweeping Sunday's doubleheader and winning their second series of the season.

In game one, Jordon Smiley (senior, Las Vegas, Nevada) made the most of his final Conference start of his career, throwing a no-hitter through 4.2 innings. Smiley gave up a two-out single to right by Korey Yost. The only other hit the Boxers managed against Smiley was a weak, slow-roller to short off the bat of Zach Gatenbein in the sixth.

The Pioneers gave Smiley early run support. In the first inning, Jordan Shibata (senior, Pearl City, Hawaii) walked. Sami Morgan (sophomore, San Mateo, Calif.) followed with a two-run shot to left field, his fourth home run of the season, to put the Pioneers up 2-0. TJ Witkowski (sophomore, Tooele, Utah) singled to right, coming around to score on a groundout by Roland Greene (freshman, Encinitas, Calif.) to put the Pioneers up 3-0.

The Boxers' pitcher Jason Reed shut the Pioneers out the rest of the game, allowing just four more hits in the final five innings. He took the complete game loss.

In game two, Tucker Laurence (freshman, Napa, Calif.), coming off last weekend's shutout of the Linfield Wildcats, was within an out of giving himself back-to-back shuouts and giving the Pioneers back-to-back shutout victories for the first time this season. A two-out unearned run in the top of the seventh broke up the shutout, but gave Laurence the 6-1 victory.

The Pioneers scored an unearned run in the first inning. Jordan Shibata reached on a fielding error, advancing to third on a wild pitch, and scoring on a groundout by AJ Brown (junior, Vancouver, Wash.). The Pioneers plated three more in the third, two runs scoring on a triple to deep center by Jordan Wlodarczyk. Wlodarczyk scored on the next pitch when AJ Brown smacked it into right field.

The Pioneers added a fifth run in the fifth after Jordan Shibata doubled, followed by a single by Sami Morgan, Shibata scoring later in the inning on a fielder's choice.

The Pioneers added a sixth run in the six on singles by Sam Holman (freshman, Eugene, Ore.), with him coming around to score on a single by Neal Finch (junior, Boulder, Colo.).

In the seventh inning, Tucker Laurence gave up a leadoff single to Kaeo Lau Hee. He struck out the next batter, and then snared a hot liner off the bat of Andrew Curtin. With Kaeo Lau Hee breaking for second on contact, Laurence had an easy double play set up, but he sailed the throw over the head of the Pioneer first baseman, with the Boxer runner advancing to second instead of being out on the double play. The next batter, Jeff Johnston, singled to drive in the run, breaking up the shutout. Laurence got the final batter to pop up on the infield to end the game.

Laurence gave up the one unearned run in seven innings of waork, scattering seven hits, walking two, and striking out four.

For the Boxers, Brandon Larson pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits, six runs (five earned) walking one and striking out none.

The Pioneers finish off the Conference portion of their schedule with a 12-20 NWC record. They still have three non-Conference games left on the schedule, a doubleheader next Saturday at home against Patten followed by a single game Sunday when they host OIT. Sunday's game will feature a pre-game ceremony honoring the graduating seniors on the team. Live play-by-play of Sunday's game will be available on the internet through sportsjuice.com.
