The Pioneer men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to
the Whittier Poets 5-4 (results)
Tuesday afternoon at the Tennis Dome.
George Allen (sophomore, Madison, Wisc.) won his #1 singles
match 6-0, 6-0. The Pioneers were up 2-1 going into the singles
matches after earning doubles points at #1 and #3. Allen scored the
early singles win to put the Pioneersup 3-1, but after Whittier won
at #2 and #3 singles, the match was tied 3-3. Peter Ray (sophomore,
Boulder, Colo.) won at #5 singles 6-3, 7-5. After Whittier won at
#6, the match came down to the battle at #4. Andrew Moller (junior,
Wilsonville, Ore.) won his first set 6-4, then dropped his second
set 6-2 to force a third. Whittier's Lance Francy pulled out the
6-4 win in the third set to give the match to the Poets.
The Pioneers are now 4-14 on the season.
The men play at Linfield Friday afternoon and then are back at
home Saturday morning hosting Willamette.
