The Pioneer men's tennis team fell 5-4 (results) to the
Pacific Boxers Friday afternoon in the tennis dome. Andrew Moller
had victories at singles and doubles for the shorthanded men. The
women won 8-1 (results) at Pacific.
For the Pioneers, Andrew Moller (junior, Wilsonville, Ore.) and
Peter Ray (sophomore, Boulder, Colo.) earned the lone doubles
point, winning 8-3 at #2. Moller also had a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #3
singles. George Allen (sophomore, Madison, Wisc.) won 6-3, 6-1 at
#1 singles. After Matthias Kullowatz (junior, Albany, Ore.) tied
the match 4-4 with his 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory at #5 singles, the
match came down to Dylan Barnard (sophomore, Fort Bragg, Calif.) at
#6 singles. After winning the first set 4-6, Barnard dropped the
second 6-1. He came from behind to tie the third set 5-5, but his
opponent won the next two games to earn the 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory
and give Pacific their first team victory in three years.
The women improved to 9-2 in the Northwest Conferece, holding in
third place in the standings, with their 8-1 victory over the
Boxers. Lisa Harunaga (sophomore, Kailua, Hawaii) and Maggie Peach
(sophomore, Bellingham, Wash.) won 8-1 at #2 doubles and then each
posted perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories in their singles matches.
The two teams close out the weekend with Saturday matches
against George Fox. The men will be at home in the dome at 11
am while the women will play on the road.
