The Pioneer swim teams started the second half of their season
split well on Friday night, posting a win verus the Pacific Boxers
with scores of 136-45 for the women and 95-84 for the men. (Results)
Swimming against only seven Boxer women, the Pioneer women
took an early lead with a first and second place finish in the
first event and would continue to hold that lead for the remainder
of the meet. For the Pioneers, Cat Menkel-Lawrence (freshman,
Newport, OR) and Koy Collier (junior, Wailuku, HI) were the only
two women to post multiple first place finishes in individual
events. Menkel-Lawrence placed first in the 500 free and managed to
edge out Pacific's Alex Prigge's 200 free time of 2:10.58 with her
own time of 2:10.10. Collier placed first in both the 200IM and the
100 free. The Pionner's Rachel Yarranton (senior, San Maeto, CA)
also swam a good meet placing first in the 50 free and coming in
less than two seconds behind Collier in the 100 free. Despite only
having seven female swimmers, the Boxers swam well, posting five
second place times and several third place times. Prigge held the
lone win for the Boxers with a top time in the 200 back.
Ten Pioneer men faced seven Boxer men in a close meet. Pat
Murray (junior, Jamestown, RI) was the only Pioneer male to win
multiple events placing first in both the 200IM and 200
breaststroke. Justin Lawton Justin Lawton (senior, Tokyo, Japan)
and Lee Taylor (freshman, Santa Fe, NM) also posted top times for
the Pioneers--Lawton in the 50 free and Taylor in the 100 free.
Matt Lormand (sophomore, Wheat Ridge, CO) placed second in both the
500 and 1000 free races. The Boxer men also had a strong meet,
clinching top times in six out of eleven events and second place in
four of the remaining five events. Brandan Mantei had two top times
for Pacific in the 200 and 500 free races.
