Shianne Smith joined the Lewis & Clark coaching staff in the Fall of 2022 and works primarily with the pitchers and catchers. She enters her fourth season with the program in 2026.

Smith played a major part in the Pioneers putting together their best season in program history in 2025. The team's pitching staff set the program record for overall wins (32) and finished top-five in shutouts (five), saves (five), earned run average (4.14) and strikeouts (169) in program history. Junior Maggie O'Leary earned NWC All-Conference honors for the second-straight season and set several program records during her third season. O'Leary owns the program record for wins (39), strikeouts (262), saves (seven) and sits tied for third in shutouts (four). As a team, Lewis & Clark set the program record for wins (32) and conference wins (21) and earned their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers finished second in the NWC for a second-straight year and advanced to the NWC Championship Series for only the second time in school history.

In 2024, she worked with a Pioneers pitching staff comprised of three sophomores, two freshman and one senior and helped them set the single-season program record for strikeouts (225) and saves (six), while also tying the single-season shutout record with six. The Pioneers staff pitched to a 3.17 earned run average (second in program history) and sophomores Maggie O'Leary (First Team) and Charlize Pope (Second Team) each earned All-Conference honors. Lewis & Clark finished the season with the program record for wins (28) and conference wins (20) and posted their best-ever finish in the Northwest Conference standings (second place). The Pioneers went on to post their first two NWC Tournament wins in program history and advanced to the NWC Championship Series for the first time in school history.

During the 2023 season, Smith guided a young staff of six pitchers to a 19-19 record with a team ERA of 4.59 (fifth in program history). Lewis & Clark's staff tied the program record with four saves and posted the second-most shutouts in a single-season (five) and third-most strikeouts (150). The Pioneers saw four pitchers throw 40 innings or more, with three of those pitchers being in their first collegiate season.

Smith played collegiately at Division I Seattle University (BA) and the University of Utah (MA). At Seattle University, she competed in 111 games, while holding the school record for strikeouts per seven innings (7.45), opponent batting average (.231), and highest number of strikeouts in a game (15). While competing at the University of Utah, Smith held opponents to a 2.52 batting average with 100 strikeouts in the season in 99 innings pitched. During her career, she was named Pitcher of the Week multiple times, as well as receiving offers to play professionally around the world.

During the offseason, Smith works as a substitute teacher in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, while continuing to share her pitching skills through local lessons and clinics. Recently, she coached the 12U All-American team for Region 9, and 2022 18A State Champions, Strictly Softball.

At Seattle University, Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities for Teaching, including a specialization in Education Leadership and Special Education with a 3.8 GPA.
