Matt Mayberg enters his second season on the Lewis & Clark men's basketball coaching staff in the winter of 2023.
The program’s lead assistant helped develop two All-Northwest Conference players in Brenden Patrick (All-Region) and Jack Henderson. Mayberg also helped the Pioneers to their best offensive point production in over 20 years as the 2022-23 team averaged 81.1 points per game. Under his direction the team shot a NWC best 75.5% from the free throw line and was second in the conference with a 36.6% 3-point field goal percentage.
Mayberg coached for nearly a decade in the Greater Seattle area. He most recently served as the assistant coach at Peninsula College, a junior college in Port Angeles, Washington from May 2019 until August 2022. In his three seasons with the program, the Pirates finished in the top-four in the region every year, led the region in defensive efficiency in 2020-21 and posted a 36-18 record in two Northwest Athletic Conference seasons. While at Peninsula College, Mayberg also served as a Student Development Advisor and the coordinator for recreation.
Prior to Peninsula, he worked as an intern, a graduate manager and then the head graduate assistant at Seattle University from May 2015 to June 2019. His roles as the head graduate assistant included being in charge of the program's four other managers, assisting in player development training sessions and carrying out operational activities. The Redhawks achieved their first 20-win season in over 50 years in 2017-18, when the program finished 20-14 and earned a spot in the Collegiate Basketball Invitational Tournament (CIT).
Mayberg has also served as as a head coach of the Gonzaga Club Women's Basketball team (2016-17) and then went on to lead the Seattle University Men's Club Basketball team (2018-19).
He earned his Bachelor of Education in Sports Management, with a general business minor from Gonzaga University in 2017. Mayberg went on to earn his Masters of Sports Administration and Leadership at Seattle University in 2019.
