Tawayne Malone ('19) returned to his alma mater for his first season as an assistant football coach for 2024. The former All-Conference defensive back will work with the Pioneers secondary. 

Malone spent the previous three seasons as a defensive backs coach at Tualatin High School in Oregon. Over his three years at Tualatin, he helped lead the team to an overall record of 33-7 with two appearances in the 6A Oregon State Championship. He served as a mentor to various high school football players in achieving their goals of playing collegiate football across various divisions.

Malone was a four-year starter at Lewis & Clark College. Through his four seasons he played in 35 games amassing a total of 186 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 26 pass deflections. He tied the program record for interceptions in a single-game in his final collegiate contest when he picked off three passes against the University of Puget Sound. Concluding his senior season, he was named to the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society. 

Malone graduated from Lewis & Clark in 2019 with a degree in Psychology. He is finishing up his Master of Business Administration concentrated in Marketing at American Public University.
