Austin Jones joins the Lewis & Clark staff as the team’s defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator in the Spring of 2025.
Jones brings more than a decade of coaching experience to Palatine Hill and has worked extensively as a collegiate, international and high school coach. He will serve as the team’s video coordinator and will be the lead recruiter for the Seattle and Spokane areas.
Over the past 12 years, Jones has worked with six different colleges across every level of collegiate football. He has had stints at Western Oregon University (Coaching Assistant), Portland State University (Defensive Quality Control & Video Coordinator), Pacific University (Assistant Wide Receivers Coach), Rochester C&T College (Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach), St. Lawrence University (Linebackers Coach) and Minnesota State C&T College (Head Coach). In his lone season at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Jones was hired in early June and led the Spartans to a 4-4 record, despite losing their starting quarterback to an injury.
He has also served as a coach internationally in Poland, Italy and Denmark. In four seasons as a head coach, he posted a combined record of 24-11 as head coach of the Warsaw Sharks (Poland), Padova Saints (Italy) and Aalborg 89ers (Denmark). Jones also served as the defensive coordinator of the United State at the World Games in 2017. The US allowed just 10.5 points per game in the tournament.
Most recently, he served as the defensive backs coach at McDaniel High School in Portland. The team allowed just 61.2 passing yards per game during the 2024 season. They added three defensive touchdowns and posted eight takeaways in nine games.
