PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College women's tennis delivered a commanding 6-1 victory over the University of Puget Sound in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the LC Tennis Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis & Clark dropped one of its most competitive doubles points of the season, losing two of three matches by a combined three games. But the Pioneers rebounded in singles, winning all six matches to complete a season sweep of the Loggers. Sophomore
Charlotte Makoni went 2-0 on the day.
Puget Sound opened with a win at second doubles, where Lewis & Clark seniors
Hayley Kreps and
Kacie Lau narrowly fell 6-4 to Pearle Buck and Hyla Chatham. At the top doubles spot, junior
Susanna Anand and Makoni fought for a 7-5 win over Kaylee Yamada and Paige Shinall. In the deciding third flight, sophomore
Emma Loucks and senior
Lauren Smith-Euben lost a tiebreaker 7-6 (2) to Krishna Agrawal and Zoe Hughes.
First-year
Anna English jumpstarted the Pioneers' comeback with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Chatham at No. 4 singles.
Kreps rallied from a first-set tiebreak loss to defeat Shinall 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Makoni followed suit at the top spot, coming back from a set down to beat Yamada 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Lau clinched the overall match win with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory over Buck at No. 5 singles.
Senior
Allison Gabelman extended the lead with a gritty 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Agrawal at No. 3 singles, and Smith-Euben closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Hughes at No. 6.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers defeated Puget Sound for the 13th consecutive time.
- Kreps won her sixth consecutive singles match, improving to 3-0 at #2 singles this season; she and Makoni are the only Pioneers to have earned a win at that position.
- The Pioneers' win today marks their most wins (8) in a season since they won 10 matches in 2017-18.
- Makoni improved to 4-0 in the top position for the year and earned her ninth singles win of the year.
- Gabelman moved to 3-3 in NWC play and is 3-0 at No. 3 singles this spring.
