HILLSBORO, Ore. – Juniors Charlie Bastunskiy and Sadie Meredith-Andrews earned All-Northwest Conference honors, the conference announced on Tuesday. The Lewis & Clark Pioneers finished in third place in conference standings on Sunday after a first place finish in the second varsity eight race, and a fourth place finish in the varsity eight race. This is the career-first conference honor for both Bastunskiy and Meredith-Andrews, who are both members of the varsity eight lineup.
Bastunskiy joined the team as a true novice their freshman year in the fall of 2023. As a freshman, he raced in both fours and eights, and traveled to the NCAA Championships as an alternate. Their sophomore year, they rowed in the second varsity eight that won a gold medal at the Northwest Conference Championships. As a junior, they raced their way into the bow seat of the varsity eight through the spring for Lewis & Clark's third place finish in conference standings. From his freshman year, Bastunskiy has always been a culture kid who brings reliability, commitment, and consistency to the group, and who is known for his signature race face.
Meredith-Andrews also joined the team as a true novice in their freshman year. She raced her way into the second varsity eight lineup and was part of the group that won a bronze medal at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta (WIRA) and went to the NCAA Championships in 2023, finishing seventh in the country. As a sophomore, they rowed in the second varsity until racing their way into the varsity boat that placed second at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships. As a junior they were voted in as a team captain by their peers and maintained their position in the varsity, eventually moving into the stroke seat for the later half of the season. Meredith-Andrews is both a quiet and steady presence on the team, putting time in off the water to develop community among her peers.
The Pioneers head to Sacramento this weekend to close out the 2024-25 season at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta. Both squads will compete over the course of two days against 31 other teams.
