PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark women's basketball earned its first win as the River Otters on Saturday afternoon, recording a 71-55 victory against Schreiner University at Pamplin Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior Lauryn Frederickson led the River Otters with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Kaitlen Carns added 12 points and went six for eight at the free-throw line, while junior forward Kaela Guidry posted six points, seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.
Lewis & Clark opened with a 7-0 run and held the lead throughout a game that featured no ties, no lead changes and 58 total fouls. Frederickson made two free throws in the opening minute. First-year Hailey Perez followed with a layup at 7:36 to make it 4-0. Frederickson and Carns pushed the margin to 7-0 less than a minute later with a layup and a free throw.
Schreiner scored its first field goal on a three-pointer by Sierra Schaefer with 6:27 left in the quarter. Lewis & Clark responded quickly. Junior Madilyn Palosi knocked down a three-pointer from the right wing at 5:35, and first-year Ali McCauley added a free throw eight seconds later for an 11-3 lead. McCauley, Carns, Palosi and Guidry all scored in the final five minutes, and the River Otters took a 19-13 lead into the second quarter.
Carns opened the second with a driving layup at 8:39. McCauley followed with a putback at 7:16 for a 25-15 advantage. Schreiner closed the gap behind two three-pointers from Madelyn Kincaide, who hit from deep at 5:40 and 4:23 to cut the margin to 27-23. Sophomore DJ Kendrick scored on a layup with about 2:30 remaining to push the lead back to eight. Lewis & Clark led 34-28 at halftime.
The River Otters rebuilt their margin in the third quarter by opening on a 9-0 run that included seven free throws in the first two minutes. Frederickson hit a three-pointer with about two and a half minutes left. McCauley added a driving layup for her seventh point, and Lewis & Clark carried a 53-41 lead into the fourth.
First-year Lilly Jordan hit a three-pointer to open the final quarter. Fellow first-year Ky Roussin made three free throws as the River Otters took their largest lead, 67-48, with four minutes remaining. Jordan finished with eight points and Roussin added five. Junior Divinity Singleton made two free throws for the final Lewis & Clark points of the night.
