SPOKANE, Wash. — Five Lewis & Clark College men's basketball players scored in double figures, and the Pioneers led by as many as eight points in the second half, but 17th-ranked Whitworth University prevailed 76-75 in overtime during Saturday night's Northwest Conference matchup with a buzzer-beating tip-in after the Pioneers held a one-point lead with eight seconds remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Andre Treadwell led five Pioneers in double figures with 13 points, including four three-pointers. Senior
Sebastian DePrez recorded his third career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Senior
Griffin Datcher IV and junior
Kody Uyesugi added 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Uyesugi dishing out a game-high six assists. Senior
Mikey Medlock Jr. rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and four assists.
The first 11 minutes of the game had seven lead changes and three ties. Treadwell knocked down a trey to give the Pioneers a 19-17 lead at the 9:41 mark. Thirty seconds later, the Pirates tied it back up, then Uyesugi hit a three to start an 8-0 Lewis & Clark run. Another Pioneer trey, this time by Medlock Jr. at 6:37, gave Lewis & Clark their largest lead at 27-19.
Whitworth fought back and tied the game at 31-all with just over a minute to go before the half. Datcher IV hit two free throws with 45 seconds on the clock to give the Pioneers a 33-31 halftime lead. Lewis & Clark hit five three-pointers in the first half, going 5-for-9 (55.6%) and held a 20-14 rebounding advantage over the Pirates. Junior
Taien Jackson led the way for the Pioneers in the first half with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting and five rebounds.
The Pioneers used a 13-7 run to start the second half to regain their largest lead, 46-38 with 11:32 left in regulation. The Pirates tied the game at 49-all with just under eight minutes to play and took their first lead since 10:40 in the first half, going up 51-49 at the 7:11 mark.
Whitworth then went on a 13-1 run to take their largest lead, 61-50, with just under four minutes left. The Pirates had gone on a 23-4 scoring run over 7:10 of gameplay to take control of the game. Lewis & Clark responded by allowing just one Whitworth field goal over the final three minutes and, behind 11 points from Medlock Jr. and Treadwell, pulled within 63-61 with 1:21 on the clock. DePrez tipped-in and missed layup with 20 seconds remaining in regulation and tied the game at 63-63, forcing overtime.
DePrez was fouled with 2:41 left in the extra period and hit the first of the two free throws. Senior
Nate Berg (four points, seven rebounds) grabbed the offensive rebound and missed the putback. DePrez grabbed the ball and drew another foul on the shot, but he could not take the free throws due to an injury. Berg sank both shots to pull Lewis & Clark within one, and Treadwell hit a three 20 seconds later to give the Pioneers their first lead of the overtime period at 71-69.
A layup by Berg extended the Pios' lead to 73-70 with 1:45 on the clock. Garrett Long's jumper gave Whitworth a 74-73 lead with 16 seconds left before Datcher IV sank two clutch free throws to put the Pioneers ahead 75-74 with eight seconds remaining. However, Ben Nyquist's offensive rebound and tip-in at the buzzer gave the Pirates the victory.
Long led all scorers with 16 points for Whitworth, while Stephen Behil added 14 points for the Pirates.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers dominated the glass, outrebounding Whitworth 46-29, including 19 offensive rebounds.
- DePrez achieved his previous career high in rebounds (12) against Whitworth on February 4, 2023, and matched it again this season against Willamette.
- Lewis & Clark's bench outscored Whitworth's reserves 46-21 as Treadwell, DePrez, Uyesugi and Medlock Jr. all came off the bench in the contest.
- This is the first overtime game for the Pioneers since a 79-75 season-ending loss to Puget Sound on February 18, 2023.
