PORTLAND, Ore.—
Micaiah Garan made seven saves and
Zidane Indarta was denied on two excellent scoring chances, as Lewis & Clark College men's soccer fell 4-0 to Multnomah Campus of Jessup University in their 2024 home opener on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Multnomah senior Paul Einero scored his second hat trick in as many games and the Lions added a fourth goal in the final 10 minutes to lift the Lions to a win in the first countable meeting between the two programs.
Garan earned his second consecutive start and tied his career-high with seven saves. The sophomore stopped two of the four shots he faced in the first half, before adding five stops in the final 45 minutes.
Lewis & Clark registered a season-high seven shots including their first shot on target of the season. Indarta forced a strong save from Luis Mendoza in the first half on a free kick and then he hit the post late in the second half. He led the team with three shots and
Ben Schwartz and
Simon McGlothern added two shots apiece.
Multnomah keepers Pablo Mendoza and L. Mendoza combined for a one-save shutout.
The visitors grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 10
th minute. Aghlies Lamara took a free kick just outside the 18-yard box from the far side and hit a perfect ball towards the top of the six which Einero headed home for his fourth goal of the year.
The same duo combined to make it 2-0 in the 28
th minute. Isael Lopez floated a ball to the back post for Lamara and Lamara cut it back for a wide open Einero for an easy tap-in.
Indarta nearly cut the deficit in half less than two minutes later. After a foul 30-yards out, Indarta hit a strong free kick towards the top-right corner but L. Mendoza ranged across from the opposite corner and made a catch just under the bar.
Einero capped off the hat trick in the 47
th minute when he received a through ball from Lamara that split the Pioneers two center backs and Einero dribbled past the keeper to finish inside the 18-yard box.
Indarta had his second great chance to get on the board in the 78
th minute. He sent a one-time shot from the top of the box off the post and it bounced back just past an onrushing Pioneer attacker.
The visitors added a late goal on a one-time strike from Wesley Gerlach who pounced on a loose ball in the box and ripped a shot just inside the far post.
Multnomah threatened for a fifth goal late, but Garan made an excellent diving stop and
Kaushal Riedman came through with an important shot block to deny the Lions during the same sequence.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Lewis & Clark registered a season-high seven shots and recorded their first shot on goal.
- First years Talen Haywood, Sam London and Brandon Paynter all made their first collegiate home starts. Kaden Nakamura, Alex Woods, Ali Alfstad, Trevor Koo and Emmet McDonough each earned their collegiate home debuts off the bench.
- Garan tied his career-high with seven saves in the contest. He also made seven saves against Whitter on September 10 of last year.
- Emmet Olson and McGlothern each played the full 90 minutes in the back for Lewis & Clark.
