Chris Reed Elevated To Cross Country Head Coach

Reed served as the associate head cross country coach at Seattle Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark men's and women's track & field head coach Chris Reed has been elevated to head coach of the cross country program as well.

"Chris has a strong distance background and we are confident that he can lead both programs to new heights," Director of Physical Education and Athletics Mark Pietrok said. "His passion and enthusiasm for both sports and for fostering an inclusive atmosphere will give our programs an opportunity to compete at the highest levels."

Reed, who is entering his second year on Palatine Hill, has served as a lead cross country coach before. He was the associate head cross country coach at Seattle Pacific University for his final four years. He led the Falcons to the NCAA DII National Championship Meet three times (2015, 2018-19) and guided the program to a 12th place finish out of 34 teams in 2019.

Reed was a long-distance runner himself, as he ran collegiately at Western Oregon University. The two-time All-American set the school record in the 5,000M (14:21.14) and 10,000M (29:44.77) and earned two trips to Nationals in cross country.
