Women’s Lacrosse Scores New Program Record For Goals In Loss To Illinois Wesleyan

Freshman Rowan Levandoski recorded her first career hat trick against the Titans

PORTLAND, Ore.
–Lewis & Clark women's lacrosse scored four consecutive goals in the second half on their way to scoring the most goals in their inaugural season, but a strong first half from Illinois Wesleyan University was too much to overcome in a 22-13 non-conference loss.

THE BASICS

Illinois Wesleyan 22, Lewis & Clark 12
(Lewis & Clark 0-7)
(Illinois Wesleyan 2-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshmen Sage Swegle (four), Finley Allen (three), Rowan Levandoski (three) and sophomore Kate Meinhard (two) all scored multiple goals against the Titans to lead the Pioneers. Levandoski recorded her first career hat trick, while Swegle notched her fourth and Allen her third.

Zoey Hamel-Hyland set a new program record with 18 saves in net. The freshman goalkeeper tied her previous career best (10 saves) after two quarters and had seven saves in the first quarter alone.

Swegle scored the first goal less than two minutes into the game, but Illinois Wesleyan quickly responded with two goals for a 2-1 lead. Levandoski tied it at two at the 11-minute mark before the Titans rattled off four straight goals. Freshman Lauren Elliott scored an unassisted goal at 5:14 to pull the Pioneers within 6-3. Allen scored her first goal 44 seconds before the end of the quarter to cut the deficit to 8-4 after one.

Allen again pulled the Pioneers within four, 9-5, at 10:57 in the second quarter. Meinhard would end a six-minute scoring drought for Lewis & Clark with an unassisted goal at 4:50. Finley scored the final first-half goal for the Pioneers and recorded her hat trick at 2:37, making it 12-7. The Titans took a 15-7 lead into halftime.

Meinhard recorded her first collegiate assist, finding Swegle at 10:53 to record one of two goals in the third quarter for Lewis & Clark. Illinois Wesleyan would take their largest lead of the day, 18-8, at 1:26 and trigger a running clock, but Levandoski's goal with 19 ticks on the clock before the final quarter pulled the Pioneers within nine points.

Lewis & Clark scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter, with Levandoski (13:58), Meinhard (11:58), and Swegle (10:51) cutting into the lead and pulling the Pioneers within six goals for the first time since 2:11 in the second quarter. Swegle scored Lewis & Clark's final goal with just under two minutes left in the game to make it 20-13. The Titan's Sadie Newton scored two of her game-high seven goals in the final 85 seconds of the game.
