HOW IT HAPPENED
Due to time constraints, the two teams arranged to play the match to decision, instead of finishing all six singles matches.
Lewis & Clark's freshmen duo
Emma Loucks and
Charlotte Makoni provided a challenge for Cal Lutheran in doubles, while junior
Hayley Kreps played a competitive singles match to close out the night.
The Regals opened the match with 8-1 wins at first and second doubles. Freshman
Susanna Anand and senior
Seraphina Vossen were unable to stop Carmen Bufkin and Mina Ahmadi on court one. While Kreps and fellow junior
Kacie Lau faced off with Kylee Limpias and Maddy Ford on court two, producing the same result as their teammates.
Loucks and Makoni provided the most competitive match of doubles play on court three. The freshmen narrowly lost to Gerda Jucys and Kayla Kling 8-6 in the third doubles match.
Ford pulled the Regals within a point of victory at number two singles with a straight-set win over Vossen. The final score was 6-2, 6-2.
Anand played a competitive first set against Bufkin, who finished the fall season ranked #19 in the ITA Division III West Region Women's Tennis rankings. Bufkin won the match at first singles 6-3, 6-0 to secure the 5-0 decision win for Cal Lutheran.
Loucks finished soon after in the third singles flight. She fell to Ahmadi 6-2, 6-1.
Despite the dual already being decided, Kreps and Lusia Garcia completed their match at number four singles. Kreps played the most competitive singles match for the Pioneers before Garcia won 6-3, 6-3.
