FOREST GROVE, Ore.—Despite 20 points from senior
Jamison Richards and a career-high 18 rebounds from freshman
Lauryn Frederickson, Lewis & Clark College women's basketball fell 89-59 to host Pacific University on Friday night.
THE BASICS
Pacific University 89, Lewis & Clark 59
(Lewis & Clark 4-19, Northwest Conference 2-13)
(Pacific 15-8, NWC 11-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pacific shot over 50 percent in each of the first three quarters and used a 24-5 edge on points off turnovers to score a season-high 89 points.
Richards continued their strong play by posting 20 points or more for the second time in four games. Richards finished 8-15 from the field and hit both of the Pioneers made threes (2-5) in the contest.
Frederickson had a big game of her own. The freshman pulled down four offensive rebounds and 18 total boards to move into a tie for 10
th in program history for rebounds in a single game. She added four points and one block.
Senior
Karli Mukai was the second and final Pioneer in double-figures. Mukai chipped in 13 points on 5-11 shooting. Mukai also hit all three of her free throws as part of a strong night for the Pioneers at the charity stripe. Lewis & Clark went 17-23 (73.9 percent) from the free throw line.
Brilie Kovaloff led the hosts with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Sydney Gray (17 points) and Rilee Pricee (11 points) joined Kovaloff in double-figures.
Lewis & Clark held their lone two leads of the game early on. Richards knocked down a jumper on the opening possession and added a second on the next play to make it 4-3 a minute in.
Pacific would respond with six points in a row to grab a 9-4 lead, only for Richards to drain a 3-pointer to get Lewis & Clark back within two. The Boxers used another 7-0 flurry to open up a 16-7 lead and they would never let the Pioneers get closer than seven.
After going down 48-24 at the break, Lewis & Clark came out strong in the second half and kept the game much tighter. The Boxers outscored the Pioneers 41-35 in the final two quarters.
In the fourth, Lewis & Clark shot 60 percent (6-10) from the field and held Pacific to a game-low 35 percent (7-20). Mukai (six points) and Richards (five points) combined to score 11 of the Pioneers 15 points during the stanza.
