THE BASICS
Ā
Whitman 6, Lewis & Clark 1
(Lewis & Clark 0-17, Northwest Conference 0-13)Ā
(Whitman 10-5-2, NWC 7-4-2)Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
Lewis & Clark played one of their best first halves of the season as they generated early chances and held the Blues off the scoreboard until the final 15 minutes. Whitman scored twice in under a minute to take a 2-0 lead into the break but the Pioneers proved the game wasn't over yet.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers cut into the deficit less than four minutes into the second stanza. On a cross into the box, junior Aashir Walson raced towards the ball and forced the Blues keeper to come off his line. The goalie couldn't handle the ball and a Blues defender desperately cleared it away, only as far as London - who was just inside the 18-yard box. London calmly settled the ball and laced a left-footed shot just over the leg of a Blues defender for his first collegiate tally at 48:15.
Ā
Lewis & Clark would build off the goal and had two opportunities to tie the game but Dylan Weinstein's first shot was deflected out for a corner kick and his second shot went just over the bar on a free kick.Ā
Ā
Whitman retook control and put the game to rest over a 10:10 span late in the half. Jacob Burrill made it a 3-1 game at 66:33. The Blues added three quick strikes in less than five minutes with Jossue Tobar, Burrill (hat trick) and Henry Pierce all scoring to push the lead to 6-1 at 78:43.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark sophomore goalie Micaiah Garan just missed out on tying his career-high for saves (10). He posted nine saves, including six in the second half. The Pioneers defense added a team save after Simon McGlothern cleared a Blues shot off the goal line.Ā
Ā
Burrill led the Blues attack with three goals and an assist to push his team-leading total to 14 goals on the season. Kevin Serrano added a goal and Oliver Dickson posted a pair of assists.Ā
