HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā

Ā
Lahusky tacked on four rushes for 17 yards. Sophomore
Chili Stephens added eight rushes for 18 yards.Ā
Ā
Defensively, sophomore
Sean Mathews posted a career and game-high nine tackles (two solo). First year
Kekama Cosma notched a game-high seven solo tackles and eight total stops.
Mitchell Sarmento (four solo, six total),
Daryl Scott (five solo) and

Josh Arcayena posted a forced fumble and graduate student
Wil Powell II notched a fumble recovery. Junior
Jack Warren tacked on a blocked point-after-attempt.Ā
Ā
After giving up a Linfield touchdown on the Wildcats first drive of the game, Lewis & Clark struck for back-to-back scores to take the lead.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers relied heavily on Morris during a 11-play, 83-yard drive. The fifth-year quarterback ran three times for 25 yards and went 4-5 in the air to help the Pioneers tie it up. On third and four from the Linfield 29, Morris connected with Burnham for a four-yard gain. Morris ran for 11 yards on the next play and then a Stephens seven-yard rush brought the ball inside the Wildcats 10. Morris found Guest cutting across the middle for a seven-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 7-7 with 6:53 to go in the first quarter.Ā
Ā
On the ensuing kickoff, Brady Crenshaw returned the ball out to the 24-yard line before Arcayena forced the ball out. Powell II dove on top of the ball at the 27-yard line to give Lewis & Clark the ball back.Ā
Ā
It took one play for Lewis & Clark to take the lead. Morris handed the ball off to Stephens who faked running it to the right side before floating a pass to Walker at the five-yard line and the sophomore was able to walk it in for a 14-7 lead. It was the Pioneers second touchdown in 15 seconds.
Ā
The Pioneers would hold tough for the rest of the first half and make things difficult on Linfield. The hosts scored on their next possession to cut the deficit to 14-13 but Warren blocked the PAT to keep Lewis & Clark in the lead.Ā
Ā
On the Wildcats next possession, Lewis & Clark posted three-straight stops inside the red zone to force a turnover on downs. Hilberg made the stop on second and three, Sarmento made a solo tackle on third and one and Sarmento and senior
Justin Hope combined to force the turnover on fourth and one.Ā
Ā
Linfield grabbed the lead on a QB keeper from Luke McNabb to make it 20-14 with 6:09 to go before halftime. They threatened to double their lead late in the half when they had a first and goal from the six. After a five-yard pass on second down, Cosma came up with a stuff on third down and the Wildcats were whistled for an ineligible receiver down field on a potential touchdown on fourth down. Linfield ultimately kicked a field goal to go up 23-14 at halftime.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers forced a punt on Linfield's first drive of the second half but the Wildcats would score on each of their final four drives (three touchdowns, one field goal) to pull away.Ā
