MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's basketball was down by two points after the first quarter, and a four at the half, but Linfield University outscored the Pioneers 42-23 in the final 20 minutes for the 67-44 Northwest Conference win in Ted Wilson Gymnasium Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman
Kaela Guidry scored a team-high nine points on 4-5 shooting off the bench to lead six Pioneers that scored six points or more against the Wildcats. Guidry added three rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Sophomore
Emily Newton was the only Pioneer to hit a trey in the game and finished second on the team with seven points, while she tied Guidry and senior
Natalie Elstone (two points) with a team-best two assists. Newton and freshman
Lauryn Frederickson (six points) led the team with four rebounds each.
Juniors
Jamison Richards,
Karli Mukai, and
Charlotte Carroll joined Frederickson with six points on the night. Both Richards and Mukai hit both of their free throws and finished with three and two rebounds, respectively.
Frederickson joined Guidry and Newton with a team-high two blocks as the Pioneers blocked the Wildcats seven times on Saturday. Richards had the final block for Lewis & Clark.
Carroll and Elstone gave the Pioneers an early 4-1 lead on back-to-back layups. The Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to go up 7-4 with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Mukai hit a layup with 11 seconds left, and Richards blocked a three-point attempt by Linfield's Amelia Solt to cut the deficit to 12-10 after the one.
Lewis & Clark tied the game 12 seconds into the second when Elstone found Carroll down low for a layup. The Wildcats grew their lead to four before Mukai hit both of her free throws to tie the game for the last time at 18-all with 5:22 to go before the break. Linfield took their largest lead of the half, 25-18, at 2:45, but Newton hit her three-pointer with 32 ticks on the clock for the 25-21 halftime score.
After hitting only eight total field goals in the first half, Linfield shot 9-17 (52.7%) in the third quarter to take a 46-34 lead. Guidry and Frederickson scored all ten of the Pioneers' points in the third.
Newton made the first basket of the final quarter, and Mukai hit a jumper at 8:17 to cut the deficit to 48-38. The Pioneers then went cold as they were unable to score again until 3:18, when Richards hit a layup to make it 63-40. Freshman
Zoë Anderson made a layup with 1:08 left in the game, and Newton grabbed an offensive rebound and made the putback with eight seconds left for the Pioneers.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Lewis & Clark held Linfield to 15.4% shooting from the floor in the first quarter but sent the Wildcats to the line 10 times, where they made eight of their shots.
- Sophomore Madelyn Sanchez and freshman Madilyn Palosi joined Guidry and Richards with three rebounds in the game.
- The Pioneer bench outscored the Wildcat bench 18-15.
