PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing their third dual in as many days, Lewis & Clark College women's tennis team showed little sign of fatigue in an 8-1 win over East Texas Baptist University in a non-conference match on Monday.

THE BASICS
Lewis & Clark 8, East Texas Baptist 1
(Lewis & Clark 5-6, 2-2 NWC)
(East Texas Baptist 8-5, 0-0 ASC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior
Arielle Bloom and sophomore
Caren Uribe finished their singles matches within a minute of each other with identical 6-1, 6-2 scores to secure the dual win for the Pioneers. Bloom finished first at the No. 3 spot, beating Andrea Alvarez and putting the Pioneers up 4-0. Uribe defeated Jayde Childress at No. 2 to give the Pioneers their fifth point and the non-conference victory.

Lewis & Clark started the day sweeping the doubles matches to jump out 3-0. Bloom and sophomore
Hayley Kreps won a close match at the No. 2 spot, winning 8-6 over Childress and Grayce Malone. The No. 1 doubles team of freshman
Susanna Anand and junior
Seraphina Vossen went to a tiebreak against Addy Seward and Bailey Smith, prevailing 8-7 (7-0). Uribe and fellow sophomore
Kacie Lau completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Maryam Sharafeldin and Fernanda Ruiz Burkart at No. 3 doubles.

Vossen made easy work of Sharafeldin at No. 4 singles. Vossen won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, for her second straight win and third win over all at the No. 4 spot.

Anand played the first of two three-set matches at the No. 1 singles spot. Anand beat Seward 6-1 in the first set before dropping the second set 6-3. Since the Pioneers had already secured the dual win, the third set was determined by a 10-point tiebreaker. Anand faced an 8-3 deficit in the third set and made a comeback. Down 10-9, Anand won the next three points to triumph the 12-10 on an ace and secure the Pioneers' seventh point of the night.

The second three-setter was between Lau and Isabelle Duarte at No. 6 singles. Lau took the first set 6-4 and lost the second 2-6. She took the third set and the match with an 11-9 win in the 10-point tiebreak.

Kreps played the last match of the night to finish, taking on Ruiz Burkart at the No. 5 spot. While two previous matches went three sets, this was probably the day's closest match. Kreps fell in a first-set tiebreak 7-6 (3). The second set was almost just as close before Ruiz Burkart won 7-5 in the second set and notched the lone point for the Tigers.
