PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark College Pioneers hosted Lewis-Clark State College Warriors in women's tennis on Thursday evening; despite two close doubles matches and sophomore
Hayley Kreps earning a win at singles, the Warriors prevailed 8-1 in a non-conference match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore
Hayley Kreps earned the lone Pioneers win at No. 5 singles in a close three-set match against the Warriors April Buckingham. Kreps won the first set 6-4 and fell in the second set 4-6. As Lewis-Clark State had already clinched the team dual, the third set went to a 10-point tiebreak. Kreps quickly came out on top 10-4 to earn her win.
The evening started with Kreps and junior
Arielle Bloom taking on Vimbai Heidi Moyo and Bonolo Molefe at No. 2 doubles, where the Pioneer duo fell 8-2. Junior
Seraphina Vossen and freshman
Susanna Anand pushed Yelena Kim and Buckingham to a tiebreak at No.1 doubles but lost 8-7 (7-0). Sophomores
Caren Uribe and
Kacie Lau took on Anne Mathema and Maria Silva in the number 3 spot. Uribe and Lau also took their match to a tiebreaker, losing a close match 8-7 (7-5).
Anand and Kim met again later in the evening at the No. 1 singles; Anand fell 6-1, 6-2. Uribe played a close first set at the No. 2 spot, losing 7-5, 6-3 to Lina Boylan. Bloom and Vossen played at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Bloom was beaten by Moyo 6-0, 6-1, while Vossen was foiled by Mathema 6-1, 6-0. Lau took on Silvia at No. 6 singles, where she lost 6-2, 6-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kreps won her 10th match this spring in dual play between doubles and singles; she joins Bloom and Vossen with 10 overall wins.
