PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's tennis suffered a 9-0 loss to Northwest Conference preseason favorite Whitman College Saturday afternoon in the L&C Tennis Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The closest matches of the day were at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Junior
Seraphina Vossen went up against Erica Mock at the three spot. After suffering a 6-2 setback in the first set, Vossen pushed Mock in the second before falling 7-5. At No. 4 singles,
Hayley Kreps went into a first-set tiebreak against Julia Longpre, dropping a 7-6 (7-1) decision. The sophomore then lost the second set 6-2.
The other singles matches ended heavily in the Blues' favor. Sophomores
Caren Uribe and
Lauren Smith-Euben played in the No. 1 and No. 6 matches, ending in identical 6-2, 6-0 scores. Uribe fell to Jin Yu at the one spot, and Smith-Euben fell to Irene Tsai at No. 6 singles. Junior
Arielle Bloom and sophomore
Allison Gabelman also dropped their singles matches with identical scores, falling 6-0, 6-0. Bloom dropped the No. 2 match to Teleya Blunt, while Gabelman fell in the No. 5 match to Sascha Wells.
Vossen and freshman
Susanna Anand took on Blunt and Yu earlier in the day at No. 1 doubles. The Pioneers dropped that match 8-2. Bloom and Kreps teamed up against Mock and Wells at No.2 doubles, and Uribe and freshman
Yenenesh Cohen played Tsai and Mae Thorp in the No. 3 spot. Both Pioneer duos fell 8-4 in their respective matches.
