Portland, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College hoped to recreate their win against Whitworth University when they hosted the Northwest Conference foe on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates had revenge on their mind and secured a 78-54 road win against the Pioneers in Pamplin Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers kept the score close through the game's first ten minutes, never facing a deficit of more than five. In the final three minutes of the first quarter, the Pios pulled to within two points twice.
Karli Mukai cut the Pirates' lead to 11-9 after the junior hit a shot from beyond the arc just under the three-minute mark. Whitworth's Kimberly Dewey hit a three on the next possession to go back up by five. With 44 seconds left in the first, junior
Natalie Elstone hit a jumper to pull back within two, and Dewey responded with another three to give the Pirates a 17-12 lead after one.
Whitworth used a 7-0 run in the early part of the second quarter to extend their lead to double digits and hold a 34-23 lead heading into the break.
Lewis & Clark cut the lead to 34-25 on the first possession after halftime. Junior
Charlotte Carroll scored her tenth of a team-high 22 points with a layup off a Mukai assist 18 seconds into the second half. Whitworth went on a 14-3 run to extend their lead to 48-28. The Pirates outscored the Pioneers 25-17 in the third to take a 59-40 lead into the final stanza.
Dewey hit another three just before the media timeout in the fourth to extend the Pirates' lead to 26.
Madelyn Sanchez went two for two from long-range in the two minutes following the timeout, both on assists from the inside. Carroll found Sanchez at the left side wing with four minutes left in the game, and then senior
Kendal Jones found the freshman in the same spot for her second three of the game. Only one more point was scored after that shot for either team when Carroll hit a free throw with 30 seconds left.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Carroll recorded her ninth double-double of the season and the 11th of her career with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She is averaging 12 points per game and 9.9 rebounds per game this season.
- Between the two games with Whitworth this year, Mukai scored 50 points on the Pirates.
- Sanchez's six points tie her career-high.
- Elstone finished with seven points, three rebounds, and three steals
- Freshman Tatiana Rebanal and sophomore Piper Curry rounded out the scoring with five and two points, respectively.
