Portland, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College hosted Whitworth University in a Northwest Conference top-four men's basketball game Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jack Henderson gave the Pioneers their only lead in the game 30 seconds after the opening tip. The senior hit a long three for the 3-2 lead. The Pirates responded with a 13-2 run to take a double-digit lead just under five minutes into the contest. Freshman
Taien Jackson found
Ryan Trunkett at the top of the arc, and the sophomore's three, cut the Pirates' lead to 19-13 with 12:54 to go in the half. Two Whitworth runs in the second part of the first half extended their lead to 47-27 at the break.
The Pirates extended their lead to open the second half and held a 57-34 advantage at the first media timeout. The Pioneers faced their largest deficit of the game right before the eight-minute media.
Sebastian DePrez capped off a Lewis & Clark 7-0 run two minutes later. The sophomore grabbed an offensive board and went back up for the score.
The junior combination of
Roderick O'Neal and
Jayden Simpson cut the deficit to under 20 points for the first time in over 15 minutes at the 2:57 mark. O'Neal found Simpson in the paint for two. On the next Pioneer possession, DePrez pulled down his tenth rebound of the game and scored his career-high 14
th point with just over two minutes to go. DePrez would finish the night with his first collegiate double-double and a career-high 12 rebounds.
BY THE NUMBERS
- DePrez scored eight points and grabbed ten rebounds in the second half alone. For the game, he shot a team-high 70% (7-10) from the field.
- Henderson scored a team-high 16 points and hit four shots from long range.
- Senior Brenden Patrick, Jackson, and Simpson finished with six points apiece.
- The only other time the Pios lost back-to-back NWC games this season is on the Whitworth/Whitman road trip in January. After those losses, Lewis & Clark won five of the next six.
- With four games left in the NWC regular season, the Pioneers are tied with Linfield for the final NWC tournament spot.
