Ā
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
The Pioneers scored 22 of 24 runs during one stretch and racked up 23 hits and eight walks in a sweep of the Tigers.Ā
Ā
On a day where everyone contributed, sophomore Riley Anderson delivered two of the biggest swings of the day. She hit a go-ahead grand slam in game one and tacked on a three-run shot in the second game to make it 10-0. On the day, Anderson finished 4-7 with four runs, eight RBI, a pair of hit by pitches and a stolen base.Ā
Ā
GAME ONE RECAPĀ
Ā
The opener was far closer than the final score through the first six innings, before Lewis & Clark scored a season-high seven runs in the seventh inning to cruise to a 15-5 win.Ā
Ā
Anderson put together a huge performance. The first baseman went 3-5 with two runs and five RBI. Freshmen McKenna Zehnder and Lainey Honma joined Anderson with multiple-hit games. Zehnder went 2-4 with a run scored, a double and two RBI and Honma added two hits, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Junior Alyssa Hoeke added three runs scored in the win.
Ā
In the circle, freshmen Tallulah Sickels, Charlize Pope and Maggie O'Leary each made an appearance. Sickels went the first three innings and gave up three runs. Pope earned her second collegiate win by allowing two walks, no hits, no runs and striking out three in the next three frames. O'Leary allowed two runs in the seventh.Ā
Ā
After Lewis & Clark scored three runs in the second, Occidental answered with a three-run home run in the third.Ā
Ā
The Pios answered right away. Hoeke led off the inning with a double, Honma was hit by a pitch and Mari Alvarez walked with one out to load the bases. Anderson sent a fly ball down the left-field line that just stayed fair for a grand slam.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark added an eighth run in the sixth when freshmanĀ Megan Yanagi drove in Anderson on a fielder's choice and put the game in the seventh. Eleven batters stepped to the plate in the seventh with the Pios racking up seven runs on four hits and two errors. Anderson (RBI single) and Zehnder (two-run double) came through with the big hits in the inning.Ā
Ā
GAME TWO RECAPĀ
Ā
Lewis & Clark scored 10 runs between the fourth and sixth innings and held off a late Tigers charge to close out their trip with a victory.Ā
Ā
The nightcap started as a pitcher's duel with Alyssa Abe and Ellery Mitchell trading scoreless innings for the first three frames. Abe held Occidental off the scoreboard for the first five innings and finished her day allowing seven hits and four runs in 5.2 innings. She also struck out four. Junior Cassidy Crusberg, Sickels and Pope combined to get the final four outs.Ā
Ā
Offensively, the Pioneers scored 10 runs on 10 hits and four walks, with 10 different players posting a hit.Ā
Ā
Anderson, Zehnder and Abe all posted a base hit and multiple RBI. Anderson finished 1-3 with two runs, three RBI and two hit by pitches. Zehnder added a run scored and two RBI and Abe added her first hit and two RBI of the year.Ā
Ā

Zehnder delivered a two-run single to score Lola Jarrette (pinch-runner) and Anderson. Abe followed with a two-run single of her own that plated Zehnder and Gildersleeve.Ā
Ā
The Pios tacked on two more runs in the fifth. Freshman Emily Patton and Jarrette singled and Anderson walked to load the bases with no outs. Sophomore pinch hitter Mia Lopez came through with an RBI single and Jarrette scored on a Gildersleeve fielder's choice.Ā
Ā
