Two Women’s Basketball Seniors Celebrated In Finale, Pios Fall to #16/21 Loggers

Gabby Beltran finished perfect shooting night with 11 points.



PORTLAND, Ore.
 – Lewis & Clark College celebrated seniors Gabby Beltran and Kendal Jones in a ceremony preceding the game before succumbing 91-57 to Northwest Conference women's basketball regular season co-champion #16/21 University of Puget Sound Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior Charlotte Carroll stopped Puget Sound's opening 7-0 scoring run with two free throws and scored the first six Lewis & Clark points of the game on her way to a career-high 27 points to lead the Pioneers in the loss. The Loggers held a 25-15 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Loggers expanded their lead to 20, but junior Karli Mukai hit two free throws 25 seconds before the end of the first half to cut the lead to 46-30.
 
The Pioneers were outscored 45-27 in the second half, and the Loggers held a 78-46 lead after three periods. Beltran scored seven of her 11 points in the third quarter, and Jones pulled down two of her three rebounds and grabbed a steal in the fourth quarter for the Pioneers.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Carroll earned the 12th double-double of her career with 27 points and game-high 11 rebounds. She has 519 career points heading into her senior season.
  • Mukai finished with seven points and a career-high seven assists in the game. She now has 502 career points in two seasons.
  • Beltran finished shooting 3-3 FG, 1-1 3PT, and 4-4 from the charity stripe.
  • Junior Natalie Elstone went 4-4 from the free throw line for four points and had a career-high two blocks.
  • Jones finished with 11 blocks this season to lead the Pioneers.
  • Freshman Tatiana Rebanal finished 1-1 from three-point land and five points.
WHO'S NEXT

The Pioneers expect to return nine players next season, including junior Jamison Richards and freshman Emily Newton who both missed significant time due to injury this winter.
