SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Lewis & Clark College women's basketball took the early lead on Friday afternoon in their second game at the UCSC December Classic, then Hamilton College came from behind for the 67-49 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior forward
Charlotte Carroll scored a team-high 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and just missed out on her first double-double of the season. Carroll earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the two days.
Seniors
Karli Mukai (nine points),
Jamison Richards (five points), and freshman
Lauryn Frederickson (eight points) all made multiple field goals in the game. Mukai finished with three assists, while Frederickson pulled down seven rebounds.
Five other Pioneers finished with a basket. Sophomores
Emily Newton and
Madelyn Sanchez each hit a three against Hamilton, while senior
Natalie Elstone and freshmen
Zoë Anderson and
Madilyn Palosi ended with two points.
Richards hit a three to open up the game and their layup at 7:12 gave Lewis & Clark a 10-3 lead and forced a Hamilton timeout. The Continentals went on a 15-0 run the rest of the quarter and led 18-10 after one.
Elstone ended the Hamilton scoring run with a layup at 8:30 in the second quarter, then Frederickson hit a jumper in the paint from Mukai to pull within 20-14. Carroll hit the first two of her seven free throws with just over three minutes before the break. The Continentals took a 37-25 lead into halftime.
Carroll scored eight points and pulled down five boards in the third quarter, and the Pioneers forced six turnovers, but Hamilton increased their lead and held a 53-40 lead after three.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Carroll had two blocks and two steals and hit all seven of the Pioneers' free throws to earn All-Tournament.
- Elstone joined Frederickson with seven rebounds to tie for second on the team and had three assists to join Mukai for the team lead.
- Senior Ashley Young, Elstone, Mukai, and Sanchez all had a block to give Lewis & Clark six blocks in a game, the most team blocks since January 25, 2020.
