HONOLULU, Hawaii. – Lewis & Clark College men's basketball was down one point at halftime, then the University of Dubuque took control in the final 15 minutes to leave the Hoops in Hawaii Classic with an 84-68 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Juniors
Griffin Datcher IV and
Mikey Medlock Jr. scored 18 points each to lead the Pioneers in double digits. Datcher IV shot a team-best 70% (7-10) from the field to earn his collegiate-high scoring while adding a team-high six rebounds. Medlock Jr. added four rebounds, four assists, and a steal against the Spartans.
Sophomores
Taien Jackson (9) and
Kody Uyesugi (6), with junior
Isaac Ticeson (6), were second and third in point totals for the Pioneers.
The first half of basketball was full of runs between the Pioneers and Spartans. Jackson, Ticeson, and Datcher IV scored the first 11 points to give Lewis & Clark an 11-6 lead just four minutes into the game. Dubuque went up 12-11 a minute later, forcing a Pioneer timeout. Junior
Nate Berg (4 pts/4 rebs/6 assists) and Medlock Jr. scored eight during a 10-4 Lewis & Clark run to match the Pioneers' largest lead (21-16) at the 10:20 mark. The Spartans went on an 11-0 run for the 27-21 lead with 5:12 left in the half. Dubuque hit the final shot of the half with a minute left to take the 34-33 lead into the break.
The first five minutes of the second half saw the two teams exchange baskets, and Medlock Jr hit a three at 15:03 to pull Lewis & Clark within 45-44. Dubuque then went on a 23-9 run to take a 68-53 lead at the eight-minute media timeout. At the two-minute mark, the Spartans were up 81-61, then junior
Nik Berry hit a three nine seconds later. In the game's final minute, senior
Roderick O'Neal and freshman
Amos Hodgson IV each made two free throws for the final 84-68 score.
