Men’s Basketball Cruises To 98-60 Road Victory Over Portland Bible

Junior Nik Berry ties career-high 11 points in non-conference win.

PORTLAND, Ore. – All sixteen Lewis & Clark College men's basketball players that suited up for Monday evening's non-conference road game saw at least six minutes of play and contributed to a 98-60 victory over Portland Bible College on Rocky Butte.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Senior Nikko Echalas led the Pioneers in scoring and was one of four to finish in double-digits with 12 points in 12 minutes of play while adding three assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
 
Junior Nik Berry tied his career-high with 11 points and was one of two Pioneers to pull down a team-high six rebounds with an assist and a blocked shot.
 
Junior Mikey Medlock Jr. and sophomore Taien Jackson were perfect from the floor and added 10 points each for Lewis & Clark. Medlock Jr. was also a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, adding two assists, a steal, and a rebound in 11 minutes of play. Jackson hit three of four free throws with an assist.
 
Berry gave the Pioneers their first double-digit lead just over five minutes into the game when sophomore TJ Muhammad found Berry in the corner for a three and an 18-7 advantage. Junior Griffin Datcher IV grabbed one of his four rebounds just under the 8:30 mark and found classmate Nate Berg down the court for a driving layup as the Pioneers doubled up the Arrows 26-13. Two minutes later, Echalas scored eight of his 12 points, stole the ball, and a rebound in just 90 seconds of game play to put Lewis & Clark up 37-15 with 4:52 left before the break.
 
Junior Khalil Glover-Dodson found sophomore Sidney Jones in the paint at 3:29 to extend the lead to 23 points. Roderick O'Neal gave the Pioneers their biggest lead of the half after hitting a jump shot in the paint and drawing the foul. The senior hit the free throw to make it 43-19 with 2:11 remaining.
 
Junior Sam Henderson hit a shot from long range to start a 10-4 Lewis & Clark run to start the second half in which Echalas, Medlock Jr., and junior Isaac Ticeson all hit baskets to go up 55-27. Sophomore Kody Uyesugi hit his second three of the game with 11:53 left, drew a foul, and hit the and one for a four-point play and a 73-35 lead. O'Neal then gave the Pioneers their largest game lead, 84-39 at 6:39, on a fast break layup on an assist from freshman Amos Hodgson IV.     
 
Freshman Steven Keene made his first appearance in a countable game against Portland Bible. Just under five minutes to play, Keene drove from the far wing and finished at the basket for his first collegiate points. He followed it up a minute later with a corner three on a feed from Hodgson IV and a 93-52 lead.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • O'Neal tied Berry with a team-high six rebounds, while junior Sebastian DePrez and Hodgson IV were second with five boards each, and Datcher IV and Jones pulled down four a piece.
  • Lewis & Clark had their best shooting game of the season, finishing 57.6% (34-59) from the field and 52% (13-25) from three-point land. Henderson, Medlock Jr., Echalas, Jackson, and Keene were all perfect from beyond the arc.
  • The Pioneers bench scored 60 points, matching the team total of Portland Bible.
  • Hodgson IV finished with a career-high six points, five rebounds, and two assists in his second collegiate appearance.
  • Lewis & Clark improved to 5-0 against Portland Bible and have averaged 97.8 points per game.
