PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College volleyball celebrated senior team manager and practice player Alex Terry and seniors
Izzy Willis and
Katie Shimaura ahead of their regular-season finale against the 2023 Northwest Conference Regular Season Champions Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday night.
THE BASICS
Pacific Lutheran 3, Lewis & Clark 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-16)
(Lewis & Clark 7-17, 2-14 NWC)
(Pacific Lutheran 17-7, 16-0 NWC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers faced an uphill battle as the Lutes entered Pamplin Sports Center on a 15-match winning streak and has not lost a NWC match all season, but the Lewis & Clark seniors still has some unfinished business to take care of and Willis and Shimaura were determined to not let Pacific Lutheran stop them.
Willis led the Pioneers with nine kills in her final match, but it was a kill in the second set that left her mark on the volleyball program. The San Diego, California native knocked a cross court shot down for her 733rd kill of her career, giving her sole possession of the number eight spot in the program for career kills. Willis officially has 737 kills on the list and surpassed Cheri Soliday.
Shimaura who moved into third on the program career dig list earlier this season, passed Kasey Kordell on Saturday, after the Mililani, Hawaii native recorded 16 digs in the match and finished with 420 digs for the season to move into sixth place. Kordell recorded 408 digs in the 1996 season.
Junior
Annika Traxler (eight kills) and freshman
Ruby Kuerschner (three kills, 21 assists) finished second and third on the team in kills.
Junior
Emily Strand and freshmen
Christi San Diego and
Isabel Melean-Williams all finished with two kills each in the match. San Diego recorded a career high three solo blocks against the Lutes and finished with five total blocks.
