PORTLAND, Ore.—Junior Mikey Medlock Jr. scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the second half to help Lewis & Clark College men's basketball earn a 78-77 win over Warner Pacific University in their second and final game of the Lewis & Clark Thanksgiving Classic.

THE BASICS
Lewis & Clark 78, Warner Pacific 77
(Lewis & Clark 2-3)
(Warner Pacific 2-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After losing three of their first four games in tight back-and-forth contests in which they were leading or tied in the final eight minutes of regulation, Lewis & Clark used balanced scoring and key plays down the stretch to hold off a late Knights run.

Medlock Jr. knocked down five of the Pioneers ten 3-pointers (5-9) and nearly doubled his career-high at Lewis & Clark. He finished with 19 points in 31 minutes and went 7-14 from the field to go along with four rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Fellow juniors Isaac Ticeson and Griffin Datcher IV each added a team-high eight rebounds to go along with double-figures in points. Ticeson registered 12 points, eight boards, three assists and went 5-10 from the field. Datcher IV chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds, went 4-8 and collected a steal.

Sophomore guards Taien Jackson and Kody Uyesugi were the final two Lewis & Clark players in double-figures. Jackson tied with Ticeson for second on the team with 12 points and first with four assists. Uyesgui drained three 3-pointers (3-7) and posted one assist.

The first half was back-and-forth with six lead changes in the early going. Lewis & Clark took the lead for good on a Sam Henderson floating jumper 3:28 into the game and would extend their advantage out to as many as 13 late in the half. The Pioneers used an 8-0 run to make it 36-23 with 2:25 to go before halftime. Datcher IV and Medlock Jr. each drained threes and Jackson hit a pull up jumper to cap off the run.

Warner Pacific would answer with nine-straight of their own over the next 60 seconds to cut the deficit to 36-32. Ticeson responded with a putback lay-in and the hosts stretched their lead to 40-32 on a last-second basket. With 1.8 seconds on the clock and the Knights inbounding from halfcourt, junior Endigo Coleman stepped in front of the inbounds pass and laid it in for a key two points.

Lewis & Clark would extend their advantage back to 13 early in the second half when Medlock Jr. hit back-to-back three pointers to make it 48-35 with 17:22 to play. The lead would stay in double figures for the majority of the next seven minutes, until a 6-0 Warner Pacific run cut the Pioneers lead to 63-58 with nine minutes left.

Ticeson hit a free throw to push the lead back to six and Uyesugi drained a 3-pointer off a Warner Pacific turnover. The Pioneers added another free throw from Datcher IV to make it 68-58 with 5:53 to play.

Warner Pacific wouldn't go away though, as they scored the next six points (68-64) to make it a two-possession game with 4:12 left. The teams would each score two points on three of their next four trips down the court, with Uyesugi and Jackson hitting two free throws each and Datcher IV coming up with a big putback layin.

Matt Solomon hit a layup to make it 74-70 Caleb-Tyree Morgan hit a driving layup for Warner Pacific to cut the deficit to two with 44 seconds to play.

On the ensuing possession, Jackson hit a pull-up jump shot with a hand in his face to extend the lead back to four with 16 seconds left. After another Solomon layup, Nate Berg was fouled in the back court and calmly hit both free throws to seal the win. Solomon drained a three-pointer as time expired to account for the final 78-77 score.
