Men’s Basketball Overcomes Slow Start To Dispatch Arrows

Fourteen Pioneers scored at least one basket in 83-51 non-conference win.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College men's basketball went on a 15-0 run to end the first half and erased their only deficit of the game on their way to an 83-51 non-conference victory over Portland Bible College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Sophomore Taien Jackson (nine points, two assists) hit the second of two free throws with 4:14 left in the first half to pull the Pioneers within 22-20 and started a 21-0 Lewis & Clark that ended with a driving layup by junior Griffin Datcher IV (four points, five rebounds) at the 18:18 mark in the second half. Junior Sam Henderson scored eight points during the run and ended with a game-high 15 points, all scored before halftime.
 
Junior transfer Mikey Medlock Jr. scored four consecutive points in a 20-second span to give the Pioneers a 20-point lead with 17:38 left in the game. Medlock Jr. finished with 10 points in the game.  
 
Portland Bible cut the deficit to 12 with just under 15 minutes to play, but sophomore Kody Uyesugi was fouled on a three-point shot on the next Lewis & Clark possession. Uyesugi hit all three free throws and scored eight of the following 10 Pioneer points to start a 20-0 run.
 
Sophomore Sidney Jones made his season debut and scored six consecutive points to give Lewis & Clark their largest lead, 76-38 with 5:42 left in the game.
 
Uyesugi and Jones led the Lewis & Clark bench in the second half as the duo scored 11 and eight points, respectively, and the Pioneers' reserves scored 35 of the team's 49 second-half points.
 
Junior transfer Endigo Coleman made his Lewis & Clark debut with three points, a steal, and an assist.
 
Freshman Amos Hodgson IV made his collegiate debut against the Arrows, put up two points, and pulled down three rebounds in just over seven minutes of play.
 
Senior Roderick O'Neal scored two points with two boards, and junior Nik Berry recorded a steal in the season debut for both players.   
 
Juniors Nate Berg (6), Isaac Ticeson (4), Sebastian DePrez (4), Khalil Glover-Dodson (3), and Ryan Trunkett (2) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers. Berg and DePrez led Lewis & Clark with seven rebounds each. Ticeson and Glover-Dodson each had two steals in the game.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • The Pioneers bench outscored the Arrows bench 41-12 for the game.
  • Uyesugi (5-5) and Jones (2-2) were perfect from the charity stripe.
  • Henderson (3-4) and Medlock Jr. (2-4) combined for all five Pioneers' first-half three-pointers.
  • The 83 points scored is the lowest amount by the Pios in four games against the Arrows. Lewis & Clark averages 97.75 points per game against Portland Bible and has an average margin of victory of 47.25 points in four games.    
  
WHO'S NEXT
 
Lewis & Clark hosts LeTourneau University out of the American Southwest Conference on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Pamplin. It will be the first meeting between the two programs.
