HOW IT HAPPENED
Juniors Charlotte Carroll and Mukai led Lewis & Clark to a 13-4 advantage at the first quarter media timeout Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers would hold on to the lead for the remaining of the quarter. Elstone, a fellow junior, grabbed an offensive board and made the putback at the buzzer to give the Pios a 19-15 lead after one.

The first half of the second quarter was a back-and-forth affair with one tie and three lead changes before the media timeout. The Athenas utilized a 12-4 run to take a 37-29 lead into halftime.

A jumper by Mukai capped a 15-3 Pioneers run that took over seven minutes in the third quarter and gave them a 42-40 lead. Mukai hit two threes during the scoring run, and Elstone added another. CMS regained the lead and held a 47-45 advantage heading into the final stanza.

With 6:52 left in the game, sophomore Piper Curry hit a long-range shot to end an 8-1 Athenas run. A minute later, Mukai hit a three to pull the Pioneers within 55-52. Lewis & Clark fought to regain the lead. Mukai and Elstone would each hit a shot from beyond the arc in the final 21 seconds, but it wasn't enough to secure the road win.
