THE BASICS
Pacific Lutheran 47, Lewis & Clark 21
(Lewis & Clark 2-2, Northwest Conference 0-2)
(Pacific Lutheran 3-2, Northwest Conference 2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After falling behind 14-0 early, Lewis & Clark rallied to tie the game at 14 going into halftime and had the momentum going into the break. Pacific Lutheran had other ideas though. They scored touchdowns on two of their first three drives of the second half and added a return for a touchdown, when the Pioneers were driving to cut the deficit to one possession, to put the game out of reach.

Lewis & Clark receivers Devon Guest and Sean Bodi had the two biggest games for the offense. Guest caught five passes for 73 yards. Bodi tied for the team-high with five catches and finished just behind Guest with 72 yards. Jonathan Newsome and Ben Burnham chipped in five catches apiece.

Senior tight end Adrian Daffy added a 25-yard touchdown reception for his second collegiate touchdown.

Senior quarterback Cruz Montana finished the game 19-31 for 212 yards and two interceptions. He also ran the ball 11 times and scored a rushing touchdown on a QB sneak from inside the one. Trey Morris and JT Willis each saw time in the fourth quarter. Morris finished 5-8 with 54 yards and a touchdown, while Willis went 2-3 for 16 yards.

Defensively, linebackers Justin Hope and Jake Bushman tied for the team lead with eight tackles apiece. Hope finished with a team-high five solo tackles and a half sack, while Bushman chipped in 1.5 tackles for loss. Jay'Den Dock totaled seven tackles and Jordan Fajardo had five tackles and a sack. Julian Colvin chipped in six tackles and a fumble recovery. Silas Ticeson led the defense with two pass breakups.

Pacific Lutheran senior quarterback Erik Bainter finished with 296 passing yards and four scores-after missing the team's NWC opener last week.

Trailing 14-0 early in the second quarter, Lewis & Clark scored on two of their final three drives of the half to go into the break tied 14-14.

The Pioneers used a 10-play, 75-yard drive to get on the board and cut the deficit to 14-7. Montana connected with Elijah Washington (16 yards) and Guest (24 yards) for two key third-down conversions. On first and goal from the one, Montana pitched the ball to Dyontae Navarrete who easily scampered into the end zone to make it 14-7 with 7:26 left in the half.

The Pioneers defense forced back-to-back three-and-outs to get the ball back at Pacific Lutheran's 40 with 4:44 to go in the half. Montana extended the drive with a QB sneak on third and two and connected with Burnham for back-to-back receptions inside the red zone to get Lewis & Clark to the one. Montana would follow his offensive line into the end zone to tie the score.

Pacific Lutheran wrestled control of the game away to begin the second half. The Lutes scored on their second offensive play of the half and made it 28-14 with 3:06 to go in the third quarter.

Lewis & Clark looked as if they were going to get back into the game on the next possession. On a fourth and fourth, Montana connected with Bodi for a 35-yard reception to keep the drive alive and put the Pioneers on the Lutes six-yard line. On the next play, Montana tried to find a receiver in the end zone but Ashton Barton cut in front of the receiver and returned the interception 99 yards for a touchdown.

The Pioneers got back on the board with 2:37 to go in the fourth. Morris came on for the drive and went 5-5 for 54 yards and a touchdown. With the Pioneers at PLU's 25, Morris found Daffy, who spun out of a tackle, fumbled and then recovered his own fumble as he went into the end zone for a touchdown.
